    Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto defended the team's decision to pit Carlos Sainz amid the latter's tight fight with Red Bull's Sergio Perez in the final part of the French Grand Prix.
    A strong recovery drive from last on the grid had carried Sainz all the way into the top five by mid-race when the Scuderia charger engaged in a fierce battle for third with Perez.
    With 12 laps to go, the Spaniard eventually got the measure of the Red Bull driver, but simultaneously his team called him in for a final pit stop.

    Fernando Alonso says getting ahead of Lando Norris at the start of the French Grand Prix was a crucial move that allowed him to control his McLaren rival and deliver an advantage to Alpine in the Constructors' championship.
    Alonso, who had qualified 7th two spots behind Norris, had feared on Saturday that the Briton would remain out of reach on race day.
    But a blistering start saw the Alpine charger clock in P5 at the end of the first lap, two spots ahead of Norris, which allowed him thereafter to control his pace relative to his McLaren rival.

    Ferrari confirms: Leclerc crash not linked to throttle issue

    Ferrari has confirmed that Charles Leclerc's crash in Sunday's French Grand Prix was a driver error and was not caused by a throttle issue as the Monegasque's radio exchange with his team initially suggested.
    Leclerc had been leading the race at Paul Ricard since the start from rival Max Verstappen, but when the Red Bull driver took on fresh tyres after 16 laps, the Ferrari driver was on his own, in control of proceedings.
    But on lap 18, Leclerc ran wide at the long right-hand Le Beausset corner, his car swapping ends and ploughing nose first into the outside barrier.
